New Found LOVE!

This piece is dedicated to my new found LOVE- Indian Railways.

How often do you hop into them?
How often do you get to see the shore of the city?
How often do its howling intervenes your ear drums?
How often do you pass through the scarish tunnels?
How often?

The upper berth is comfy
Why?
You don’t bother quarreling with the bypassers
Nor about someone throwing a piece of snacks or an empty tea cup or
dusting leftovers from top
You rather fancy the privilege the berth offers.

Bodies squeez
heads trap
ensembles crumble.
oscillating on the door
Is a real gamble.
one need to risk it.
the deep down valleys
monster plateaus
rocky terrains
elevated plains
pebble filled rivers
thrill you
one by one
and suddenly rushes in
a gush of breeze
roaring
caresseing your face
blowing your hair
tranquilzing your heart
like a real LOVE
did you see?
you risk it
and it pays off.

Then this guy, I see
patternly cracking
the unmannered passengers occupying the aisle
with a vessel full of vada paav on his head, tactically balancing it off with one hand
holding a kettle of tea in the other
and a bundle of plastic tea cups under his arms
he shreiks
Chayeee…Chayeee….

From the upper berth
I gaze at the thronged aisle
some endure to stand
some rest on their own luggages
a few on others’
I keep mine safe.

I love this compartment I’m in
They label it “General”
best for small distances
beating over AC tiers
and sleeper coaches
Why?

Ain’t it depict reality?

the imperfectly perfect materiality

of the common lives…

Can relate so much to this. One thing I used to do was get down at this small stations and just stroll around. Get back and climb back to the upper berth.
